Artworkers Guild Talk

Jo Sealy was invited to present The Black Artisans photography project to the membership of The Art Workers Guild at their headquarters in central London. The Black Artisans featured as part of Craft Council's newest exhibition - We Gather - from 17 November – 12 March 2022, highlighting five female artists of Black and Asian heritage. The article below by Tanya Harrod documents the talk; the following are just a few of the artisans mentioned:

Chris Bramble, a respected ceramicist and sculptor whose work blends European and African traditions.

Doreen Gittens of Archipelago Textiles, a master weaver who has worked from her Oxo Tower studio for 25 years.

David ‘Satch’ Botwe is a French horn repairer and former musician who now runs Satch Brass Consultants Ltd in Southwark.

Melanie Eddy, a jeweller whose practice spans sculptural jewellery, design, writing, teaching, and international residencies.

Moussa Dembele, a West African griot and multi‑instrumentalist from Burkina Faso, known for repairing and performing with traditional instruments such as the balafon.
